The game - a hybrid between
Facebook and
Sims - called the
Skittles Skuffle encourages users to visit the Skittles micro site to create their own avatar which they can personalise with a number of features.
www.goskittleyourself.com The avatars can then battle each other in a series of 'Skuffles' or challenges with the ultimate goal of encouraging other members to become fans of your avatar. The overall winner will see their final Skuffle beamed up onto the giant billboard in London's Piccadilly Circus. The campaign will be supported online through
Facebook and
Twitter.
The decision to use social media as the key platform for promotion follows in the wake of the US branch of Skittles' brave attempt to infiltrate social media in March this year, whereby they updated their homepage with live feeds aggregated from public Twitter feeds and
YouTube clips. Unfortunately due to the lack of control that Skittles had over the content being created, some of what was streamed to the site was inappropriate and the brand came under major scrutiny. We hope that this campaign is more successful for Skittles.
