The Voicebot forms part of an overall campaign titled
Voicebox, a data visualisation project based on online surveys covering attitudes, perceptions and aspirations.
http://voicebox.vinspired.com Contagious
was lucky enough to have a meet and greet with the Voicebot yesterday -
think Wall-E meets Nike Chalkbot - and see the robot in action. So here
is the skinny... messages are submitted online by users aged 16-25 in
response to the question 'What do you care about?', these are then
moderated and sent to the robot which begins 'writing' with
surgeon-like accuracy, even replacing the pen lid at the end of each
message!
http://vimeo.com/6417494 Once
the message is complete, a photograph is taken and sent to the author,
is posted on Flickr and online. Tag clouds and filters on the site
allow for quick referencing of the responses by age, gender, region and
ethnicity.
http://voicebox.vinspired.com/results/what_you_care_about For the week beginning 12 October the Voicebot will be in residence in the
Houses of Parliament writing messages in real time, and sharing 1,500 of the best entries submitted to date.
Sidekick Studios Director,
Adil Abrar,
explains the initiative as 'a modern twist on writing a letter to your
MP. Instead of sitting around complaining that young people are lazy
and apathetic, our approach is to develop tools that make it easier,
more powerful and more exciting for them to express their views and get
involved.'
We love the digital to physical aspect of the campaign, in such a
cluttered world its great to see something tangible and real come from
online media.
