To
drive sales of the board game in the run up to Christmas,
Mattel, through
,
has launched a social media campaign which sees rival Scrabble
enthusiasts from Belgium and the Netherlands battle against each other.
A dedicated site allows players to sign up, play Scrabble and then
share and follow their experience using Facebook and Twitter.
Marvellous CEO
Jon Carney
says: 'We're taking the convivial, sparring qualities that Scrabble
brings out in players and using social media tools to generate and
amplify word of mouth, beginning in two key European markets. By
sending out dynamic Scrabble battles and exposing them through
Facebook and
Twitter, we are aiming to tap into audiences who love online, instant challenges and introduce them to the Scrabble experience.'
A
neat app from Mavellous keeps track of players scores, updating their
country profile and further fuelling the rivalry between players and
countries. A Facebook app allows users to update their status with
scores, and the fun continues on Twitter (@scrabblebattle) where a
series of seven letter instant battles commence. These are sent out to
followers inviting them to reply with their best scoring answer within
a specific time, a neat way of further engaging with people. The top
scoring players from these little battles will be invited to compete
for the illustrious title of Supreme Scabbler at an event to be held in
Antwerp in early December.
For the rest of us mere casual players, we'll just be happy if no one moves in on that triple word score we've had our eye on...
