Music recommendations have been spreading the joy of a good tune for as long as people have been able to lend a bit of vinyl or put together a compilation tape. Of course the internet's taken that to another level with sites like
Pandora,
Last.fm and even
iTunes' Genius function all able to analyse your musical taste and make some suggestions based on your listening habits and optimum number of beats per minute.
Currently in
private beta, mflow is a music recommendation service that connects users and rewards them when songs that they have recommended are bought by other listeners. Users 'flow' a track and are given the option to include a comment. Then the first 30 second snippet of the song is sent out to their followers. If a follower buys the track to listen to it in full, the recommender receives 20% of the price paid for the track - added to their mflow tally to be spent on more music. Musical catalogues currently up and running on the site include Universal's and Beggar's.
Recommendations can be filtered by users and organisations such as magazines and bands including UK-based music magazine,
Clash and
Temper Trap have pro accounts, spreading information and comments about the songs they are listening to via the service.
Contagious and mflow would like to invite 1000 people to
join the private beta trial. Simply head to
www.mflow.com and enter
WWTJHV to get started.
mflow will launch to the wider world on
15th April, and in the mean time you can find further details of developments on its
blog,
Facebook and
Twitter.
Happy listening!
