Master of infographics Edward Tufte is making a rare UK appearance to speak at an event this Wednesday evening organised by Contagious' friends at Intelligence Squared
Statistician, information design guru, artist, sculptor, author and now advisor to Obama, Edward Tufte will explain the art of the visual presentation: how empirical evidence in whatever form it may take - words, numbers, images, diagrams, still or moving - can be turned into effective means of communicating information.
Those not lucky enough to get tickets (which quickly sold out) can watch the event live online for £2.99.
Tufte is famous for denouncing PowerPoint, arguing that it is a damaging communication tool which 'routinely disrupts, dominates, and trivialises content'. (Contagious is not a fan either, and we've been extolling the virtues of new presentation tool Prezi - look out for our feature on the company in issue 23, out in June.)
Described as the 'da Vinci of data', Tufte has written a series of award-winning and best-selling books on visual thinking and analytical design and has most recently been appointed by the White House to advise Obama on ways to present to the American people how the $787bn in recovery stimulus funds are being spent.
Check out the Intelligence Squared website to get your pass to the live online event, or watch it on-demand at your leisure.
Live online viewers will be able to post comments and questions for Tufte during the live broadcast as well as interact with others via Twitter and Facebook.
