TBWA\Manchester has created a rather handy colour matching iPhone app for client Crown Paints. It works much like the highly regarded Nike PHOTOiD application; when a user stumbles across something in a shade they find particularly pleasing using Colour Match they can snap a photo and the app will instantly recommend the nearest shade in the Crown range, along with two complementary colours.
Designed to be a handy tool for decorators and DIY enthusiasts alike, the app means less time spent trawling through piles and pages of colour swatches, and ensures the nearest match possible with one of the 250 colours available in the Crown range.
Sally Heppenstall from Crown Paints, says: 'We know that some of our customers find it tiresome trying to match their preferred colours with swatches. We wanted to take advantage of technology already available to create a simple, practical and useful tool for customers and we're confident we have achieved this.'
Another neat feature uses the iPhone's GPS functionality to seek out the nearest of the brands 1800 stockist, providing contact details and even the travel directions, but leaving you with few excuses to get out of painting the kitchen at the weekend (we expect that feature in version 2.0).
Talking about this location function, TBWA\ Manchester CEO Fergus McCallum says: 'The beauty of the GPS functionality in the Crown app is that it, quite literally, completes the customer journey. It allows us to start the customer off at the stage of debating the best choice of colour and hopefully see them though to the store, elevating the app from a handy piece of utility to something that drives the customer towards a purchase. We are trying to make it as convenient as possible for the user to obtain the colour they want with minimal effort on their behalf'
