TIPP-EX
/ A HUNTER SHOOTS A BEAR
3 September 2010
Or rather, a hunter does anything but shoot a bear
Wow - 2010 is rapidly becoming a golden year for retro brands to show the new kids on the block how to make this new-fangled social media contraption work.
We've already seen Old Spice move out of your dad's Christmas stocking and into the realms of the über-cool thanks to a towel, a raised eyebrow, and some rapid scripting. Now Tipp-Ex is hoping to harness the might of YouTube to bring it back from the dusty recesses of desk drawers everywhere.
The correction fluid brand's latest campaign features a video of a hunter caught in the dilemma of whether to shoot a bear or not. Having decided not to, he grabs a Tipp-Ex Pocket Mouse and amends the video to 'A hunter ____ a bear', before inviting the viewer to fill in the blank with their choice of verb.
Once the viewer has suggested a new action, the hunter and bear duo act out the new command or, if they get stumped, hold up a cheery 'Error #404' placard.
Created by French agency Buzzman, the open-ended challenge of trying to find all the filmed variations ensures high levels of engagement and dwell time on Tipp-Ex's YouTube page - which has already notched up over 485,000 views since the video was uploaded at the end of August.
For possibly the first time in YouTube's history, the comment section is actually helpful, with suggestions of actions to try out including: eats; watches TV with; swims with; moonwalks with; shows his ass to; is shot by; smokes with; and the rude one which you're thinking of - yes they do that too.
Of course, fun as it is, we'd be surprised if the campaign made people close down computers and re-discover the joys of handwriting their docs just so they can roll out the Tipp-Ex to correct their inky mistakes.

I really enjoyed it. Very creative.
Besides the amazing amount of views, we've tracked the campaign in the past few days! Here's how it performed: http://bit.ly/tippexcampaign
