Whether it's overhauling its homepage using
social media or
Mobbing the Rainbow, confectionary brand
Skittles is constantly looking for ways to engage and entertain its
Facebook fans (all 12 million of them, globally).
Now,
TBWA, London, brings a dose of real time Facebook status updates in the UK.
Skittles has launched an instant video updater for Facebook statuses - simply send your Facebook status to
www.facebook.com/skittles.uk and the Skittles call centre will then make a movie of your status, and post it back to your wall. Production was overseen by
Acadamy Content, London, and director
Jakob Marky.
Lee Tan and
Johan Dahlqvist, creative directors at TBWA, London, told Contagious: 'We're taking something everyday and adding a heap of Skittles awesome-ness to it. If you're eating an egg sandwich in your bedroom, why not use our Super Mega Rainbow Updater to broadcast this important information on a film made just for you?'
The complete collection of status updates are housed on
YouTube and the call centre will be up and running for two weeks. At the conclusion of the fortnight, Skittles will ask fans to vote for their favourite message.
Tan added: 'We've kind of signed a paperless, internet-based contract with our 1.5 million fans [in the UK]. We want them to stay in The Rainbow and help us bring more people inside it. In return, we give them odd, astounding and downright dumb experiences that make their day more fun. If we don't do that, they will leave, much in the same way that football fans file out of a stadium, heads lowered, when their team is being hammered 6-0. Building a fully functioning call centre was a fair test, but nothing compared to some of the challenges we've got coming up. But rest assured, the best experts and scientists in the world are working on it, right now!'

Look at your Social Network ad campaign, now back to mine. Now back at your ad campaign now back to mine. Sadly it isn't mine, but if you stopped ripping off OldSpice’s BTL activity & started being creative for once it could look like mine. Look down, back up, where are you? You're sitting at your desk writing the ad your ad campaign could look like. Back at mine, it’s a Cannes Lion you’ll never win. Look again, the Cannes Lion is now diamonds. Anything’s possible with original creativity. I’m on a chair.

Lovely, and nothing at all like Old Spice.
