Christmas cracker from AKQA
With a wry nod and wink to ghosts of Christmas campaigns past and present, AKQA London has wrapped up Pot Noodle's seasonal dish in a cosy-looking online video, packed with just enough spice to remind us it promotes the student population's favourite snack.
The agency created the 75-second claymation clip to support the Pot Noeldle turkey 'n stuffing flavour they created on behalf of the client.
Taking its cues from British pop-culture moments from throughout the year and cutesy Christmas ads of the past, the clip finds a Noodle Van speeding through the streets of South London on the way to a family dinner.
Pot Noodle marketing manager Tom Denyard said: 'Following on from our successful Guinness 'Tipping Pot' spoof, which re-staged the domino effect advert first made famous by Guinness, we have once again taken inspiration from the UK advertising market place, but this time repackaged a much loved and reassuringly familiar Christmas feeling.'
So how many references can you spot? A quick run through this morning and we spotted Cat Bin Lady, the Peckham Terminator and a loving piss-take of the Oxo Family.
So while the product speaks for itself - appalling pun and all - its good to see AKQA backing the concept with a sweet piece of creative, replete with original music by Adelphoi Music, which rewards closer inspection. In fact, fresh from reading our own Most Contagious and other year round-ups, we wouldn't have been averse to more being made of the blink-and-you'll-miss-'em cultural references.
Seasoned Ting to one and all.
