FOOTLOCKER / SNEAKERPEDIA

Sneaker fans can participate in building a wiki of kicks

Aiming to unite the world's most ardent sneaker fanatics and their collections into one gloriously comprehensive hub, Footlocker, through Sapient Nitro, London, has launched Sneakerpedia.

Fitting with the sports shop's brand essence of 'enthusiasm beyond reason', users will be able to search and add to exisiting content, building up information and constantly improving the resource. Details of trainers are uploaded, complete with pics of the shoes in their original boxes, and tagged according to brand, colour, material and year.

The site has been running in locked beta for a while now, with content building up thanks to a select group of collectors. Now sneakerheads are able to set up their own profile and show the world their pristine and - up till now - underappreciated trainer collections.

Malcolm Poynton, chief creative officer, Europe, at Sapient Nitro, explains: 'This is a gift from Foot Locker to the global sneaker community. We're not running it; it's a space for them and we're really proud to offer it. In return, we get the benefit of understanding that community better and can then stock more sneakers that more people like. We are transparent about that, and that will make the return on investment better for us.'
