Following the successful
CS Presents, the
Creative Social collective are launching the
CS Fanboy series - a series of events, supported by
Contagious, where the Socials will curate an evening of speakers and share what they are most passionate about.
The first evening of inspiration,
Mania of the Geek, is taking place on Wednesday 5th October at Mother London and it will be curated by self-professed gamer, Anomaly creative director and rubbishcorp® founder,
Nathan Cooper.
Recent figures suggest that more money is now being spent on video games than on films, evidence that the games industry has been transformed from niche entertainment for teenage boys into mainstream entertainment for millions of British families. Mania of the Geek sets out to explore the impact of this shift on our everyday lives.
The first speakers will include
Pat Kane, the author of the best-selling book,
The Play Ethic, and
Stephen Curren, a British video game journalist, presenter, author and games designer whose work has been cited as one of 'Ten unmissable examples of New Games Journalism' by
Guardian Unlimited.

Hello - I have just seen you are running 'Mania of the Geek'. I wondered if you needed any further speakers? I am a Psychologist who specialises in Video Game research - I write for an American Game magazine 'The Adrenalin Vault' (www.avault.com) and have published (Complete Psychology). I could provide details of psychological research that suggests gaming actually provides positive effects/contributions to our social lives.
