Contagious 31 is now published and copies are winging their way around the world to subscribers. If you'd like a sneak preview, click here to read some extracts from the magazine.

One of the key ideas explored in issue 31 is Marketing as Service Design: how brands are using innovative services to help build lasting and more meaningful relationships with consumers. The theme is considered by Contagious Insider consultant Dan Southern, but also crops up in our in-depth HBO case study. Ed White's feature examines the TV channel's marketing, content and strategy, including HBO Go, the app which has been driving viewing figures and helping to cut churn.

Another example of a brand layering services into its products is Hiut Denim with its History Tag, which creates a narrative and history around a pair of jeans. Lucy Aitken interviews Hiut's founder, David Hieatt, about provenance, craft and building products to last on page 24.

We thought these values were so worth celebrating that we asked Hiut to stitch a bespoke pair of Contagious jeans, which you can see on the front cover of this issue, as modelled by our very own Florence Hill in an impromptu photo shoot outside the office. Take a look at our History Tag (historytag.com/i/XCPYQJ76/) to see what else our pair has been up to.

Other features in this issue include an in-depth sector focus on innovation in the global telecoms industry and a case study on Brazilian cosmetics brand Natura, which has been paving the way in sustainability, innovation and transparency in the world's third largest beauty market.

The Contagious office is currently Cannes-dominated as we rehearse our seminar, 'Better With The Brand' (taking place at 16.30 on Monday 18th in the Palais' Debussy Theatre). We've also been speculating about what will win - check our predictions - and have been busy inspiring audiences with some of the best work from the past year in our Cannes Contenders presentation. If you want a recap of some of the festival's best work and stand-out seminars, please get in touch to hear more about our retrospective option, Cannes Deconstructed.
