Contagious was launched in London in 2004 by Paul Kemp-Robertson and Gee Thomson, in partnership with Xtreme Information – a market leader in the provision of global media intelligence and competitive advertising monitoring.
Prior to Contagious, Kemp-Robertson served as editor of shots magazine and was later VP/Global director of creative resources at Leo Burnett Worldwide. He co-edited The Commercials Book (D&AD) and has written for numerous publications, including The Guardian and The Hollywood Reporter. Thomson is author of Mesmerization and a co-founder of shots magazine.
'The inspiration for Contagious came from the fact that the marketing industry had shifted 180-degrees, yet there didn't seem to be a single news and information resource to help advertising professionals navigate their way through the new landscape,' says Kemp-Robertson. 'We thought it would be useful to create a global intelligence resource and competitive monitoring tool for the future face of marketing communications.'
'Our mission was to become the bible of "non-traditional" marketing,' says Thomson. 'We were fascinated by the impact of new technologies and the potential of social media; the different ways in which people were connecting – and the ways in which advertisers could help them to connect.'
At the heart of Contagious lies its flagship magazine, DVD and online resource, covering topics such as: branded content; mobile marketing; social networking; user-generated content; word of mouth; viral; interactive; blogs; video games; retail initiatives; design innovations and emerging technologies.
Contagious also operates Contagious FEED, a bespoke online intelligence resource and alerts service for advertisers and agencies.
The business also provides consultancy and trend briefings/workshop services for advertisers and agencies, as well as publishing a series of Special Reports and specialist events.
The Contagious team is now a dedicated and enthusiastic bunch of 20 people, with editorial staff and commercial representatives in London, Brussels, Chicago, Hamburg, Mumbai, New York and Sydney. Our head office is in Farringdon, London. View map

Aside from a slow burning interest in public transport upholstery, occasionally reporting on his beloved Wolverhampton Wanderers and eclectic adventures in musical and culinary enlightenment (although sadly not at the same time), Dan works within Contagious Insider – where he aims to combine a passion for the new and interesting with quiet disdain for the over-hyped.
Having graduated with a first class degree in Economics, he started his career within a WPP sports and entertainment agency, which was followed by a role as creative consultant within Xtreme Information’s Insight team, where he helped double the business in three years.
Having once been reviewed in a Bristol listings magazine as looking like ‘a private school kid who’d escaped detention’, nowadays he keeps his guitar playing to his home, but can occasionally be found running around a muddy field in a corner of East London playing Sunday League football.
